Lab 11 – Intro to Robotics

(1- or 2-Day Lab) This topic introduces the subject of robotics and artificial intelligence. This topic can be presented as either a one-day session, or a two-day session. Less experienced students can complete the “Day 1” handout in one class period, and the “Day 2” handout on a second class period. But using only the “Day 1” material is sufficient to introduce the topic. More experienced students can complete BOTH the Day 1 and Day 2 material in a single class period. (Students follow procedures in this activity).

Compare Contrast and Debate

Kick-Off Debate Background: Robots, robotic-automation, and artificial intelligence (AI) have been increasingly been improved in recent years. Some believe this is a good step-forward, and others are hesitant about the potential implications and impact to people and societies from the increased use of robots.

  • Position A: Robotics and robots – along with AI – should continue to be used in our day-to-day activities.
  • Position B: Continued emphasis on the use of robots undermines the importance of human effort and the value of human-to-human interaction.
