My Past?
Psychodynamic theory suggests that our past experiences shape who we are and how we behave. It indicates that there are three parts of our mind:
-
- the conscious mind (what we’re aware of)
- the preconscious mind (what we can easily remember)
- the unconscious mind (what we can’t access easily)
Psychodynamic theory also says that our unconscious thoughts and feelings can influence our behavior without realizing it. For example, if you were bitten by a dog when you were little, you might develop a fear of dogs that affects how you act around them.
Overall, psychodynamic theory helps us understand why we do what we do and how we can change our behavior by exploring our past experiences.
