Write Letters

Assignments here are generally self-explanatory for students. These can be used as in-class supplements, homework, general assignments, or quick printouts for an unplanned teacher absence. Students receive an assigned science topic (included on each printout). They compose a friendly letter to their instructor based on the science topic provided.

Emphasized ELA Standard

Each assigned letter-activity reinforces an Oklahoma HS science-standard, introduces concepts and composition of a friendly letter, and provides an opportunity to read and summarize a small excerpt of complex text.  NOTE: The assignments do not necessarily need to correspond to the student’s enrolled subject, or to the class topic being covered at the time of assignment.

  • 10.4.R.1 Students will increase knowledge of academic, domain-appropriate, grade-level vocabulary to infer meaning of grade-level text.
  • 12.8.W Students will write independently and vary their modes of expression to suit audience and task.
