Debate

While the US science community has adopted SI standards, many portions of every-day life in the US continue to use the Imperial System of measure (such as the ounce, pound, mile, and gallon). The cost of converting (road signs, for example) would be expensive – and many older citizens (especially) are comfortable with the traditional units of measure.

  • Position A: Even though it would be expensive, the US should adopt the same SI units of measure and the industrialized world.
  • Position B: While SI units of measure make sense in science, there is no need to change this for daily living.
